The Ionians IslandsThe Ionian Islands group consists of seven major islands situated near the western coast of Greece along the Epirus and the Peloponnese.

This group of island is often called Heptanisos which means Seven Islands in Greek.

These seven islands are from the north to the south: Corfu( Kerkyra), Paxi, Lefkada, Ithaki, Cephalonia( Kefalonia), Zakynthos or Zante and Kythira.

The group covers a total area of 2.307 square km.

These islands differ from other islands group. They receive a great amount of rainfall and that makes the islands fertile with dense vegetation.
These islands are a popular holiday destination and are considered as a sailing paradise.

Each island has its own character and has much to offer to the visitor. Some of the islands are fully organised, offering all kind of facilities.
Some other islands are more isolated and all they have to offer is their priceless authentic beauty.

All of these islands have some common characteristics. They are mountainous and fertile islands and offer some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece.

Corfu - Ionians IslandsCorfu Greece or Kerkyra is definitely the most known of the Ionians Islands and it is one of Greece’s top holiday destination. It was one of the first islands to attract foreign tourists in the 60’s. Corfu is the second largest island of the group. The island has the highest rainfall and offers dense vegetation with woods and plants of all kind. It also offers some beautiful beaches surrounded by many Corfu hotels.

The capital of the island is considered by many as one of the most impressive and elegant towns in Greece, offering to the visitor a unique atmosphere.

Ithaki - Ionians IslandsIthaki is world known as the home of the famous Homeric hero, Odysseus. The island of Ithaki is situated only 3 km from the island of Kefalonia. It is a mountainous island and only the west coast is green and welcoming.

Ithaki Island has kept its authentic and natural charm and beauty as nothing had changed from the times of Odysseus.
Despite the proximity to Corfu, the island has not seen yet the arrival of the mass tourism development even with all the beauty it can offer to the visitor.

Kefalonia - Ionians IslandsKefalonia Greece is the largest of the Ionian Islands. It receives package tourists from all over the world but not as much as Corfu. It is a beautiful mountainous island with nice landscapes, impressive beaches, charming towns, medieval ruins…

The island also has an interesting history which was used as the background for the famous novel of Louis de Bernières “Captain’s Corelli’s Mandolin”.There are many Kefalonia Hotels all over the islands, in the main towns but also at the most famous resorts and the most beautiful beaches.

Lefkada - Ionians IslandsLefkada Greece is the fourth largest of the Ionain Islands. It is connected to the mainland by a long causeway and it can be reached by car. Lefkada is a mountainous island and has many satellite islets. One of those is Scorpios, Onasis’ private islet. Lefkada must be the island with the most impressive beaches in Greece. It looks like if bleaching water was mixed with the blue colour of the sea.

Beautiful beaches are located all around the island and some of them are world known for the windsurfing weather conditions. Many Lefkada Hotels are situated in these areas.

Zakynthos - Ionians IslandsZakynthos Greece is the most southerly of the Ionians Islands. The Venetians called it the “Flower of the Orient”. It is an island that kept its authentic and natural beauty even if some parts of the coastline were totally disfigured by the mass tourism infrastructure.
The island has a mountainous northwest, a fertile central plain while the southern and eastern coast is where all the mass tourism resorts are located.The island has an impressive number of Zakynthos Hotels. Most of them works via travel agencies and are already booked for all the season.
