The
Ionian Islands
group consists of seven major islands situated near the western
coast of Greece along the Epirus and the Peloponnese.
This group of island is often called Heptanisos which means Seven
Islands in Greek.
These seven islands are from the north to the south: Corfu(
Kerkyra), Paxi,
Lefkada, Ithaki,
Cephalonia( Kefalonia),
Zakynthos or Zante
and Kythira.
The group covers a total area of 2.307 square km.

These islands differ
from other islands group. They receive a great amount of rainfall
and that makes the islands fertile with dense vegetation.
These islands are a popular holiday destination and are considered
as a sailing paradise.
Each island has its own character and has much to offer to the visitor.
Some of the islands are fully organised, offering all kind of facilities.
Some other islands are more isolated and all they have to offer is
their priceless authentic beauty.
All of these islands have some common characteristics. They are mountainous
and fertile islands and offer some of the most beautiful beaches in
